Our School Values
We have created visual representations of our school values, inspired by Tainui pūrākau (stories) that are deeply connected to our local history and whakapapa. These stories help strengthen the connection our ākonga have to the cultural and spiritual heritage of our region.
Each symbol reflects one of Whitiora’s core values:
Pipiwharauroa (the shining cuckoo)
A manu that signals new beginnings and is also referenced in the waiata Toia Mai te Waka Nei. Pipi represents Kaitiakitanga—our shared responsibility to care for people, place, and the environment.
Pane-te-Iraira (the taniwha)
The guardian who guided the Tainui waka to Aotearoa in the form of a whale. Pane represents Whanaungatanga—the importance of connection, unity, and collective strength.
Paku (the kuri)
The loyal dog who helped guide the Waikato Awa from Tongariro. Paku symbolises Manaakitanga—showing kindness, respect, and care for others.
Together, these values guide who we are at Whitiora and how we support our ākonga to grow, connect, and thrive.
