Principal | Tumuaki
Primary and intermediate (Years 1–8) / kura tuatahi, Principal
Whitiora Primary is a vibrant, community centred kura located in the heart of Kirikiriroa. Serving learners from Years 0-8, our kura reflects the rich cultural and socio-economic diversity of our community, with a strong commitment to equity, belonging, and success for every ākonga.
Our kura is characterised by its strong sense of identity, deep community connections, and a commitment to culturally responsive practice. We are continuing to build a learning environment where ākonga are confident in who they are, where they come from, and where they are going, grounded in te ao Māori, and equipped to succeed in a changing world.
Grounded in our vision, Poipoia te kākano kia puāwai, we are seeking an exceptional principal | tumuaki who will lead with integrity, courage, and deep relational capability. This is an opportunity to lead a kura where Te Ao Māori is visible, valued, and lived, and where partnerships with whānau, hapū, and iwi are central to our success.
We are looking for a leader who:
Walks confidently in te ao Māori and te ao Pākehā, giving authentic effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Builds strong, trust-based relationships across staff, ākonga, whānau, and community
Leads high-quality teaching and learning, with a relentless focus on equity and excellence
Brings strategic clarity and can lead sustainable improvement in a complex, urban setting
Is visible, values-driven, and committed to the wellbeing and success of every learner
You will be supported by a committed Board and a passionate team, ready to work alongside you to shape the next chapter of Whitiora Primary.
If you are a courageous, culturally grounded leader ready to make a meaningful difference, we welcome your application.
